Do I need to be any good at chess?
Not at all. We have complete beginners and seasoned tournament players at the same tables every week. If you know how the pieces move, you'll fit right in, and if you're rusty, someone will happily refresh you.
Does it cost anything?
No. Chess night is completely free. There are no dues, no membership fee and nothing to sign up for. Just turn up.
Do I need to bring a chess set?
You don't have to, because we bring sets and boards. That said, if you own a set you love, bring it along. More boards means more games running at once.
Where exactly do you meet?
Narrative Coffee Roasters at Mercato, 9110 Strada Pl, Naples, FL 34108. Look for the tables with chess boards. We do move to other spots some weeks, so it is always worth checking our Instagram before you set off.
Can I bring my kids?
Please do. We're family‑friendly and all ages are welcome. Plenty of parents play a game while their children play theirs.
Do I need to RSVP?
No, you can always just turn up. RSVPing helps us set out enough boards, and it means we can email you if the location changes that week.
Do I have to stay the whole time?
Not at all. Some people play one game and head off, others stay from 6:30 right through to 8:00. Come and go as suits you.
Does the location ever change?
Yes, occasionally. Narrative Coffee Roasters at Mercato is our regular home, but some weeks we play somewhere else. We always post the week's location on Instagram, so check there before heading out, or send us a text and we will tell you.
